Social Media Meltdown of the Week

THIS WEEK’s PERP:

Rupert Murdoch, Chairman, News Corp.

THE FACTS:

Public face of leading multi-media empire floats bizarre conspiracy theory about Malaysian flight disappearance.

THE INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE:
MURDOCH TWEET

THE FALLOUT:

Lucky for News Corp shareholders, nothing. Fox News is still tops in the cable ratings, and 20th Century Fox’s Searchlight Pictures just nabbed a Best-Picture Oscar for 12 Years a Slave. But with a huge group of critics and detractors waiting to pounce on anything Murdoch does in the public sphere, a social media gaffe like the above may convey an image of Murdoch as out of touch with reality, and possibly ready for retirement. This is not a good thing for News Corp. stock, especially given the looming phone hacking probes in the U.K. that might end up costing the empire millions in damages.

THE LESSON:

Social Media Meltdowns happen everywhere, all the time, and with 91% of your employees using social media every day at work, it’s no longer a question of “if”, but “when” it will happen to you.

Shield yourself against the risk. Learn how now.
